Chordeleg
38 km from Cuenca, Chordeleg is famous for its wealth of handicraft production. Skilled hands work, day in, day out, producing delicate gold and silver work. Straw hats are also woven in this nationally and internationally recognized village.
Gualaceo
34 km northwest of Cuenca lies Gualaceo, characterized by its industrious inha-bitants working in gold and silver, embroidery, leatherwork and pottery. Gualaceo is also home to the clear water of the Santa Barbara and San Francisco rivers with their picturesque banks.
Sigsig
Nestling among endless tall "sigses" grass, lies the village of Sigsig, a small plain 62 km from Cuenca. Fine straw hats are woven here, and also made in the outlying hamlets of Zhimbruc, Guel, Dacte, Cuchil, Zhotor and Curin Nari, among others.
